Alice au pays des Merveilles aux Célestins
Cendrillon de Maguy Marin

End-of-year entertainment

From December 20th, 2012 to January 1st, 2013

End-of-year events and music!
Here's a taster of what you can expect if you visit Lyon over the Christmas and New Year period.

A fairytale beginning to the festive period!

It all begins at the Auditorium, which is running a very special and magical “cine-concert” event from December 20-23 produced in partnership with Eurodisney: Disney's Fantasia with the Lyon National Orchestra performing the music and the film being projected on a giant screen.

Over at the Opera, you can admire Maguy Marin's version of Cinderella. An unusual, thought-provoking, humorous and poetic ballet, which has lost none of its vitality or magic while touring the world. Don't miss it!

At the Célestins theatre, you can round the year off nicely with Alice by Lewis Carroll, a poetic, acrobatic circus performance for all ages which presents an urban version of the Alice in Wonderland tale set in contemporary China… an unusual and endearing show.

The Christmas Concert by the Opéra de Lyon's children's choir La Maîtrise, on December 23rd at theChurch of Saint-Bonaventure: a popular old favourite for Christmas…

For its part, the Auditorium is thinking big with no fewer than 13 concerts scheduled between December 8th and January 1st, and a number of festive end-of-year events. Don't miss the Noël cuivré (A Brass-coloured Christmas) on December 23rd, with several brass bands criss-crossing the room to get the public singing in a wonderfully festive event which should even appeal to those unused to concerts!

And naturally, there's the huge New Year Concert, a joyous and uplifting event including Offenbach, Strauss, a Spanish theme, and the waltz conducted by the talented young Japanese conductor Yutaka Sado, with the amazing young violinist Baiba Skride.

Why not finish the year at the Amphithéâtre, with the Nuit Blanche de Saint-Petersbourg (The St Petersburg All-Nighter)? What could be more romantic than experiencing the very spirit of Russiato welcome in the New Year? Thirty Slavic dancers and musicians will be there to prove the point!

These are just some of the excellent reasons for spending Christmas and the New Year in Lyon!

Get those champagne corks popping!
